Parsa Jafarian

B.Eng. Software Engineering (Co-op) and Minor in Mathematics, McGill University.

I work on machine learning for time series and applied mathematics, drawn to problems where the statistics are the hard part rather than the engineering — forecasting under heavy noise, and the mathematics that makes it tractable.

I am currently a research intern at the McGill Networks Research Lab with Prof. Mark Coates, studying how sequence models behave when the signal-to-noise ratio is low, using cross-sectional equity returns as the testbed. Before that I built a simulation framework for human–robot interaction at the NeuRoC Lab, which led to a first-author extended abstract accepted at ICNR 2026.

Beyond Research

  • Piano Took classes for three years. I play Beethoven’s Pathétique, Mozart’s Fantasia in D minor, and Arno Babajanian’s Elegy among other pieces.
  • Chess Restarted playing chess in summer 2026. Currently around 1350 on Lichess.
  • Typing Roughly 110 WPM — Monkeytype profile.
  • Running & swimming I swim in the winter and run in the summer.
